La Choza Chula is a social enterprise seeking to ensure local communities and the environment benefit from the growing tourism of El Paredón. It works to provide education, enterprise and employment opportunities for the people of El Paredón promoting promote positive impact from tourism on the local community, and improving human and environmental well-being.
Our local tours and products ensure that the local community benefits from the growing tourism in the area as well as providing support for our projects. Our products empower women and young people by creating opportunities to generate additional income through locally-made and environmentally sustainable products. The project develops creative skills and introduces the basics of enterprise and product development. Products are 100% organic using natural dyes and thread, using materials made by a women’s cooperative in nearby Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. As well as providing a fair wage to our makers, all proceed from the sales of our products are reinvested back into our education, enterprise and environment projects, including our Buena Vista Library and it's full range of education programmes.
